E: Earning Your Red Wings is a powerfully energetic band with a particularly intriguing name... care to explain it? Anthony: Okay, we got together just to play a school fundraiser for prom, and we were thinking of a name. So I remembered our bass player, Roudy, talking about how his brother earned his red wings... so I was like, sweet. So I brought up the idea with Mike when we had to give our band name, and he's like that's sick as f*ck! So we kept it. Plus it just sounds cool. *Laughs* E: Has the band been around for a while? Mike: Yeah, after that school show we played we definitely looked into sticking around with each other to create music we all love. It's been six or seven months since we first started playing music together, and we're all hoping for much more time together . E: Is new material currently in the works? Anthony: Yeah, it is. We have a new song that we just finished yesterday that's called "Give Me the World." It has a lot of breakdowns and harmoniesway more than any of our other songs on the CD. It will most definitely get the crowd going. Mike: It's always in the works, it seems like. At practice, the dudes will mess around with some riffs, drums and all, and just have fun with it, and maybe a little something comes out of it. Our songwriting process is always fun to do because everyone's ideas are thrown out there to see what we can do with it--add it, change it, scratch itbasically anything you would do to make a song perfect. E: Have you kept a fairly consistent sound the whole time you've been together? Anthony: Well, when we were together for about two months or so, the music was kind of pop punk, to be honest. Then after the whole band started geting into bands like Saosin, From First to Last, Senses Failand even some hardcore such as Poison the Well and Norma Jeanthe sound changed for the better. A lot more screaming, more interesting guitar riffs, things that. But we all love the style that we play, and we would love to play it as long as we can. Mike: *Laughs* We even had a sh*tty funk jam song named after our bassist Roudy, called "Roudy Roudy." Basically the lyrics were just a mix around of Snoop Dogg's "Lodi Dodi"... good times. But yeah, our music style has changed for the better, and it does make the song writing process go smoother then with our orignal type. When we first started, we had a mix of the pop and the screamo, and just after playing together for this amount of time we seem to have found something that's us . E: Do you think you've gotten to the point where you can put on a pretty good live show? Mike: Oh, most definitely. When we started out, our crowds had no idea what we sounded like, and like every band out there, you feed off them. Now we are at the point where people have heard us before, on several occasions, and really enjoy the hell out of our live show. With our old music, we never really moved around that much, never got into it. Now with our EP and new material... I have to stand away from the band it gets so nuts during practice. I believe we really put on a great show for fans, or anyone, to watchalways constant energy being thrashed around by every single member in the band, and we love it, it's what our music is all about. Anthony: I have to one hundred percent agree with Mike about our old music. It totally sucked, so that meant the crowd sucked. I have to have kids moving around in the crowd to get me going, and that never happend with the old music. Now with the CD out, kids know the words and sing along and get crazy. Like at our last show, we had about one hundred and fifty people, and at least half of them were singing along, so I went nuts and played really hard. And with this new song we just wrote, everyone in the band goes really crazy with guitar spins, head banging, and God knows what. E: What are the plans for the band's future? Anthony: Well, just like every bandtour tour tour. It's the best way to get your name out there and make something of yourself. We want to try and do some sort of tour by next summer... no idea with what band or anything, of course. But as of now it's just playing as many shows around Brandon and Tampa that we can. But something that's more in reach is to play shows in other towns around Florida, because they all have a way better music scene than Brandon. That's why I'm so surprised we are even at where we are now. Oh, and we plan to get a trailer soon so it will be easier to get our gear to shows . Mike: *Laughs* Yeah, most definitely agreed. We want everyone to hear our music, and we mean everyone. So what if you don't like us, that's cool, it's the fact that you listened to us, and gave it a shot you know? And who knows, maybe that person knows someone who loves our genre of music. But yeah, like Anthony said, our mind right now is in the touring mode. We really want to get out there, away from the Brandon scene and show other cities what's up. E: So are you definitely excited for the future of the band? Anthony: I'm super excited about the future of the band, because we definitely have what it takes if we practice a lot and put all of our hearts into it. Mike: Yeah man, definitely excited for what the future has in store for Earning Your Red Wings! E: Thanks for the interview. |
