Rocky Catanese - Vocals, Guitar Mike Drew - Guitar Clark Lampen - Bass, Vocals Kevin Sutten - Drums |
E: So Kick Over the Traces has just been signed to the label Genco Records--how much of an impact do you expect this to have on the band? Rocky: I think it will have a positive impact. I think people will be able to associate us with some good bands, and since we've been signed we've gained some great friends and great shows. Kevin: Yeah, not to mention we can finally get our CD out. We've been sitting on this for such a long time because we could never afford to put it out, and now that we have support from Genco, we will be able to release it. E: Do you think the fans of Genco Records' other bands, which includes Royden and Post Break Tragedy, also become fans of the material you plan to release? Kevin: I certainly hope so. I think Royden and Post Break [Tragedy] are amazing bands, and if people who enjoy their music enjoy ours, it's like a huge compliment. I don't expect them to like us because we hold the Genco name, but I certainly hope they give us a chance. Rocky: I don't expect people to like us because of the other bands on the label, but I think that because of that tie we have people who like Royden or Post Break will have an easy opportunity to listen and get info on us. E: Have things sped up at all since the signing, or has it still been business as usual for now? Kevin: It has sped up as far as it feels like we are finally getting things done and we're getting more shows, and starting to tour. But it also still feels like not much has changed--we just have more things to take care of. E: How many songs would you say have been written as a band together since Kick Over the Traces was started? Rocky: About fourteen. Six will be on the EP, three are new, and we've trashed... well, we've retired the rest. Not to mention all the songs that never made it out of the basement, which is a good amount. E: When the band writes songs, is it usually done with everyone working on their piece separately? Or do you all write together in the same room? Kevin: It can be a combination of both. We try not to limit our writing, so a lot of time we'll be in the basement jamming out songs and we'll all have our input, and sometimes we'll bring in things that we've worked on by ourselves. E: How much time has the band been spending together? Rocky: We all hang out pretty regularly outside of practices and shows, so we see each other quite often, not to mention Clark, Kevin and I live in the same neighborhood. E: Have you been able to play the amount of shows that you'd like? Rocky: Well, we would all love to play shows every day, but I like that we play several shows a month. Kevin: Yeah, ideally we'd like to be touring full time, but until then we try to fit in as many shows as we can. E: What should fans attending your shows come expecting to hear? Rocky: Kids should come to shows expecting to hear songs from our EP and a couple new ones. E: How would you sum up the experience that you've had so far as a band? Rocky: Well, we're not full-time yet, but the experience we've had has been great. We've played with a lot of awesome bands, met some really cool people, and had so much fun in the process. E: Well hey, I gotta say thanks for doing this--anything else you think should be said? Kevin: No problem. We'd like to thank you for doing the interview and anyone taking the time to read this. We would like to tell everyone to check out Genco Records at www.gencorecords.com, and you can check us out at www.kickoverthetraces.com. Look out for our EP in the fall as well. |
